Choice: the only antidote for doubt
How to break through paralysis, overcome doubt and reclaim your clarity through the power of conscious choice.
DOUBT: that sneaky little gremlin
Do you know that annoying sense of confusion, of feeling lost and suddenly unsure about everything in your life?
You find yourself dwelling in uncertainty and doubt, not knowing in which direction to proceed. You feel overwhelmed by life and its myriad of possibilities, and because of your FOMO (=fear of missing out) you end up being paralyzed and stuck: you start overanalyzing possibilities, calculating your best timeline in a very mental way, questioning several (or all) areas of your life, losing faith in yourself and in the Universe.
You might have a passive experience of this state, where you feel like giving up, or a turbulent one (of frantically wanting to fix things as quickly as possible, at whatever cost). Or if you are like me, you could oscillate between both these attitudes.
One thing is sure: you are stuck, confused and either very depressed and lethargic or very upset about it.
You may have tried many quick fixes, yet not succeeding at moving out of that situation.
How choice dissipates doubt
I’ve been there, multiple times. I have just come out of my latest downward spiral of doubt and I want to share my latest findings with you. The simple truth that I came to realize is:
There is no right or wrong way out of doubt.
As much as we wish there was the “right solution” to whatever difficult situation we are facing, there usually isn’t. As long as we stay stuck in looking for that solution we won’t be able to get out of that state!
IT’S NOT ABOUT MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION.
(It is however, about making one 😉)
As long as we keep obsessing about finding the right way (the right job, the right friend, the right partner, the best scenario..) we are staying stuck.
How do we shift out of those paralyzing states of DOUBT, then?
By CHOOSING.
By choosing that thing that you are honestly not sure about. By picking ONE possibility, one of the many or one of the few you are able to see in that moment.
You choose.
You commit to it. No matter what.
You move WITH the doubt, in its presence and company.
First, you make a decision, second, you follow through with it.
EVEN IF it is uncomfortable, EVEN if you have no clue whatsoever if it is the right and best thing, if you will succeed, if people will like it, etc, etc..
How your energy field reacts to choice
From an energetic perspective, the very fact that you are MAKING a COMMITMENT will pull together your scattered and confused energy and direct it somewhere (and any direction is better than nowhere, trust me!).
By choosing, we take back our personal POWER, we gain strength, and we set ourselves “in motion” again after having been stuck. We rise from the messy fog of doubt and position ourselves on a clearer view point.
Only then, when we are already proceeding towards a goal, following through with the decision we made,
CLARITY FOLLOWS.
You are right, it doesn’t come BEFORE the choice. It comes AFTER.
Do not wait for clarity to make a decision, because you may stay stuck uncomfortably long!
Clarity is the gift that follows…
Clarity is the response from the Universe for taking a stand and reclaiming your sovereignty.
You go first, the Universe goes second.
You may be able to see now, whether the choice you made was actually a good one or pivot and make adjustments, if needed. But from my experience, if you make it to this stage, you most likely will have shifted your perception of “good and bad choices” to the point where it doesn’t even matter anymore.
What matters is that you chose and you owned your choice.
Becoming your own hero
When we choose with our full power, we are INVINCIBLE because whatever happens next, whatever consequence, we are able to take it.
We “have our back”, and no matter what, we are not going to blame, pity or shame ourselves: we are standing fiercly and firmly in the unfolding of events.
So it’s not about making the right choice (by minimizing risks and unpleasant consequences), it’s about making the choice you are able to make, following through with intention and commitment and trusting yourself that you will be able to handle whatever comes next.
Reconciling inner contradictions
I like to picture doubt as a state in which many parts of us are in conflict and unable to converge. We can choose to let them converge, we can choose to stand behind ourselves, trust ourselves and create safety for ourselves.
So let’s start building the inner safety we need to move more effortlessly through life, instead of looking for outer safety and searching for the safest choice. From this perspective it becomes an exciting journey of self- mastery.
What moves in you when reading this?
Here are some reflection questions for you:
What are some practical ways for you to create more inner safety and lean into trusting yourself more?
When/Where did you already face challenges and show resilience and how can you build upon those experiences?
What is the worst-case scenario and how would you gracefully deal with it?
What intrinsic and extrinsic abilities and qualities can you rely upon?
Share your findings with me, let’s grow together!
